Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has said that he expects Liverpool to be much better next season than they were this season. Liverpool finished in the seventh place of the first season under Brendan Rodgers. This was just one place better off than they managed last season. Liverpool were expected to compete for a top four spot this season, but it did not materialise even with the heroic performances of Suarez throughout the season. The striker almost ended up as the top scorer in the Premier league, but Liverpool were not able to take advantage of this masterful performance.
Despite the negativities, Suarez believes that Liverpool will be able to compete for the top honours next season. Liverpool already looked much better in the second half the campaign following the arrival of players like Daniel Sturridge and Coutinho. Sturridge was signed for £ 12 million from Chelsea, while Coutinho cost around £ 8 million from Inter Milan. Liverpool recently managed to agree a deal with West Ham for the sale of Andy Carroll for around £ 15 million, thus taking a hit of £ 20 million on the striker to cost £ 35 million in 2011.
Liverpool have not qualified for the Champions League in the last few seasons.
“When the manager arrived here it was a little difficult because maybe he didn’t know the players or the club. The first season for the manager was good for the confidence of the players. Next season we can be better. Of course there’s more to come from not only me but all of the players in the dressing room. That’s important,” said Suarez, who also confirmed that he will be staying with Liverpool next season as well. The 26-year-old will miss the opening six matches of the new season due to suspension.
