Luis Suarez to Link up with Uruguay National Team

Barcelona have allowed striker Luis Suarez to continue his recovery from an injury by returning to Uruguay.

The striker will be travelling with the national team in order to link up with the squad for the World Cup qualifiers. Uruguay are up against Paraguay and Argentina in the World Cup qualifiers. Suarez is not expected to feature in both these games, as he is still recovering from a knee injury suffered in the match against Real Madrid midway through August. Barcelona have stated that the player is expected to miss around four weeks of action, and it has compounded the misery after having lost Neymar to a world record transfer to PSG.

Suarez has been one of the top scorers in the Spanish league since making the £ 75 million move from Liverpool in 2014. His importance at the club has now assumed a greater significance with Neymar’s departure and Lionel Messi also reported to be contemplating his future at the club.

Barcelona feel that the player being with the national team and at home will help him recover faster, while also helping Uruguay get a positive result in the World Cup qualification. Uruguay are only third in the World Cup qualifying group in South America and there are only four matches left.

Only the top four teams will be reaching the World Cup finals automatically, as the team that finishes fifth in the table will have to go through a play-off. Uruguay will be keen to avoid this situation at all costs. “Luis Suarez is recovering favourably from the knee injury he suffered in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup.Barcelona’s medical services and the Uruguayan Football Association have agreed that the player will join up with his national team next week to continue his recovery work,” said Barcelona in a statement.
