MOLINARO BACKS JUVE

The former Juventus defender Cristiano Molinaro has said that the Italian team are well equipped in order to get past Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The German club have been drawn against the Italian champions after having knocked out Arsenal in the previous round. However, Molinaro has said that the defence of Bayern Munich is not exactly the strongest, and Juventus will be able to get past them. He has also said that the attack of the German club is one of the most potent, and most of the trouble is likely to come through Frank Ribery and Arjen Robben.

Molinaro played for Juventus from 2005 to 2010. He is currently playing for the German club Stuttgart. Molinaro has identified the central defensive position as the weakest link in the Bayern Munich team due to the fact that the manager Heynckes does not have any options other than Daniel Van Buyten at the moment. He has, however, given credit to the defender Dante, who has been one of the impressive performers for Bayern this season. Due to the fact that Daniel Van Buyten does not have a lot of pace, Juventus can easily get behind the defensive line and cause havoc. Bayern, though, have conceded very few goals for all their weaknesses.

“Bayern always try and play their own game, but they are not exceptional in defence, in particular at centre-back. Dante is having a great season, but the problem is who will play alongside him. At the moment Jupp Heynckes opts for Daniel Van Buyten, and that’s Bayern’s most vulnerable spot. He is not a fast player and he could suffer against [Mirko] Vucinic and [Sebastian] Giovinco. Ribery is very unpredictable. However, I would also keep a close eye on Robben,” said the 29-year-old defender.
