Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez is reportedly eyeing a return to Barcelona this summer. This is according to Spanish journalist Jose Alvarez Haya who stated that the Uruguayan is even willing to take a pay cut to make the transfer happen. Haha said that Luis Suarez could make a sensational return to Barcelona two years after the attacker was forced out of the club.
Luis Suarez had one year left on his Barcelona contract when former manager Ronald Koeman informed him that his services would no longer be needed via phone. The ex-Ajax Amsterdam and Liverpool star came close to signing for Juventus only for the transfer to hit the rocks before he opted for Atletico Madrid.
In his debut season, Luis Suarez helped Atletico Madrid to win the Spanish La Liga title for the first time in seven years while finishing as the club’s topscorer in the process. He has not been able to reach the heights of last season at Atletico Madrid this season which happens to be his last season at the club. The expectation is that Luis Suarez will leave the Spanish capital club as a free agent this summer.
35-year-old Suarez spent six years at Barcelona before his transfer to Atletico Madrid in a €6m deal. The Uruguayan striker had signed for the Catalan giants shortly after the 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament in Brazil in a £75m deal and he was able to win the Champions League title in his first season at the club. He scored in the final as Barcelona beat Juventus 3-1 to win the competition for the fifth time. Luis Suarez scored 198 goals in 283 games during his time at the Nou Camp.
Suarez earns £160,000 on a weekly basis at Atletico Madrid and he’s said to be ready to sign for Barcelona on a reduced salary.
