Godin said he spoke to Suarez about joining him at Atletico Madrid when he wanted to leave Merseyside giants Liverpool. The veteran centre back said Suarez choose Barcelona and that he was right. He also revealed how the club called him when Suarez wanted to join Atletico Madrid last summer and six years on from him moving to Barcelona ahead of Atletico Madrid.

Luis Suarez moved from Liverpool to Barcelona shortly after the 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament in Brazil. The Catalan giants paid around £75m for the Uruguayan international player and he went on to score 198 goals in 283 games winning the 2015 Champions League title as well as four Spanish La Liga titles and four Spanish Copa Del Rey titles before he was unceremoniously told to leave the club last summer.

Suarez was deemed surplus to requirements when Barcelona appointed Dutch tactician Ronald Koeman as their manager last summer. He came close to joining Italian Serie A outfit Juventus before the move broke down and Atletico Madrid snapped him up for a knockdown fee of around £5m. He went on to fire Atletico Madrid to their first league title in seven years this season.

Luis Suarez scored the winning goal in a 2-1 away win over Real Valladolid on the final day of the La Liga season to help Atletico Madrid win the league title ahead of city rivals Atletico Madrid. He scored 21 goals for the club in the league on the way to the La Liga title.
